while at other times a fog of depression

would envelop me for months or years at

a time.

Then, at 35 years old, I witnessed an

extremely traumatic event. A friend I

was staying with in America committed

suicide. He shot himself.

It was horrifying.

I returned home to the UK a few weeks

later and my depression spiraled out of

control. Months went by without me

even leaving the house or opening the

curtains. I lost contact with all of my

friends, and had only a feeling of

nothingness and suicidal thoughts to

keep me company.
